Amit is the founder of the BioUrja Group and serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. He sets the overall direction for all group companies, defines the vision and mission, and directly oversees BioUrja Trading’s supply and trading activities. Immediately prior, Amit spent 13 years with ExxonMobil involved in the trading of ethanol, MTBE, petroleum coke and gasoline. He also developed technical operations experience at the ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refinery. Ever an entrepreneur, he has built numerous successful companies over the past twenty years, including childcare companies, real estate investment companies, and various energy and agricultural companies, all of which have been profitable, 100% owned, and successful. He received a B.S in Chemical Engineering, Suma Cum Laude, from Drexel University.
Shék oversees the operations of all group companies, as well as supervises all activities related to corporate development, legal matters, investments, and risk. He has been with the BioUrja Group since inception, serving as an advisor to the Chairman & CEO throughout the growth of the group. He formerly served as the CEO of WTP Capital, LLC, a private equity firm; President of Global Services Partners Acquisition Corp, a publicly traded acquisition firm; and President of Megasoft, a publicly traded software services company. Shék also formerly practiced law with the international firms of Jones Day and Holland & Knight and has served as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Maryland Law School. Shék received his B.S. in Professional Writing from Towson University, Magna Cum Laude, and his law degree (Juris Doctor) from the University of Maryland School of Law.
Arpita is the co-founder of the BioUrja Group and is responsible for all human resource related issues for the group of companies. In that capacity, she establishes and governs all employee policies, benefits administration, and career development programs. Arpita attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge.
Dushyant is responsible for the financial operations of all group companies, including all accounting, cash management, and financial planning functions. He is a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and has more than 7 years of prior experience in senior management positions in manufacturing industries in India and Canada, in addition to approximately 5 years of experience in project financing and accounting. He also has worked for a boutique public accounting firm in New York for 2 years. Dushyant received his Bachelors of Commerce degree in accounting and auditing from Gujarat University in India.
Jordan is the head of our ethanol trading and supply business. Prior to joining BioUrja in 2010, Jordan worked for Racetrack Petroleum for five years in various positions, including, as a transportation analyst, commercial analyst, pipe and waterborne scheduler, Gulf Coast Gasoline trader, and ethanol trader. He earned his B.A. from the University of Tennessee in Logistics and Transportation with a concentration in management.
Steve heads natural gas, refined products and crude oil trading for BioUrja Trading. He has spent 35 years in international energy, the majority in the Louis Dreyfus Group as CIO, CCO, CEO, Head of Trading and Head of Natural Gas. In 1999 he became CCO and Head of Trading for EDFT, a venture created by Electricity De France and Louis Dreyfus Corp. At EDFT, Steve successfully built one of the largest energy trading companies in Europe overseeing all energy assets including fuel supply, economic dispatch, and power plants. Steve subsequently built a successful upstream business by hiring a team of technical experts focused on E&P assets in the Marcellus and East Texas. Prior to EDFT, Steve was Head of Trading at Duke/Louis-Dreyfus and before that Head of Trading at Louis-Dreyfus Electric Power. Other successful endeavors included refined product terminals and distribution, re-commissioning a German refinery, and serving as CIO of Louis Dreyfus Energy. Steve has a B.S. in Accounting from the State University of New York – Buffalo.
Shaila Hossain is responsible for all business development activities of BioUrja Trading. She has more than 27 years of experience in the energy industry. Immediately prior to joining BioUrja Trading, she served as a partner in Captra Capital. Before that, in her roles at Willow Bend Capital Management and IS Jacana, Shaila provided strategic energy advisory services to hedge funds, private equity funds, energy companies, development companies and other investors on energy assets ranging in values from $20 million to more than $2 billion. At Panda Energy, she focused on power and gas reliability strategies to support Panda’s North American gas-fired power generation development projects. Shaila began her career at Panhandle Eastern Corp. and affiliates as a marketing analyst, and served as a chemicals business analyst and senior transportation representative at FINA, Inc. Her in-depth understanding of the energy sector and her ability to evaluate strategic asset plays are the keys to her success. Shaila holds a bachelor of business administration in accounting and finance from the University of Texas at Austin.
Pritesh is responsible for developing energy commodity trading opportunities in the Asia region for BioUrja Trading. He also manages the support services operations for all group companies via our affiliate, AB Technologies, in India as well. Previously, he worked in the finance department for a multinational IT company, Yash Technologies, LLC, and as a team leader with Arihant Capital Markets Ltd. He received his MBA with specialization in Finance/Marketing, from DAVV University, Indore.
Rajan joined BioUrja in 2016 to manage the company’s implementation in Mexico and further in Latin America. He started his career in strategy consulting with FTSE 100 companies, working at WPP Group in London. He then moved to James Caan’s private equity firm, Hamilton Bradshaw, where he began his consulting focus on commodities. He moved to Houston in 2014 to found an energy human capital consultancy within Sir Peter Ogden’s portfolio, where he oversaw the build-out of commercial energy businesses across oil, gas and renewables into emerging markets across the Americas, specifically Mexico and the Southern Cone. Rajan has a BA (Hons) in Modern Languages (Spanish & Italian with Portuguese) from the University of Manchester and an MSc in Latin American Studies (Economics & Politics) from Oxford University.
Cody serves as the President of BioUrja Power, LLC, but given the formative nature of BioUrja Mexico and its special focus on power and natural gas, both areas in which Cody has deep experience, Cody currently is also serving as the head of commercial operations for BioUrja Mexico. Mike serves as the interim President of West Plains, LLC, with a strong emphasis on managing all commercial activities. He has been working in the grain sector for over 34 years, starting with owning and operating a small country grain elevator. He subsequently worked for DeBruce Grain Co, where he managed the origination, transportation and merchandising of grain, and then with Wells Bowman Trading, a cross-country grain merchandiser operating throughout the high plains, and later with Farmland, where he served as Director of Regional Management and Business Development. Mike also founded Centennial Trading, a risk management and logistics company for the grain sector, which was later acquired. Prior to joining West Plains, LLC, Mike served a second time with DeBruce Grain, where he formed and operated a regional trading office. Mike graduated from Chadron State College with a degree in Agribusiness.
Darin is the head of business development for West Plains. He has over 27 years in the grain industry beginning his career as a cross-country grain merchandiser with De Bruce Grain Inc and most recently as Vice President for Gavilon Grain. During this time he has managed grain facilities throughout the Midwest and Northern Regions of US handling wheat, oilseeds and feed grains. His industry experience has included Logistics, Project Management, Budget Development and Forecasting as well as Strategic Planning. Darin is a graduate from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science Major in both Agriculture Business and Commercial Economics.
Paul is the head of operations for West Plains LLC, where he oversees all grain elevator operations, safety and compliance, and capital expenditure projects. He has 11 years of operations management experience with multiple grain companies, specializing in improving operational efficiencies that drive down overall costs. Past experiences include managing operations one of the highest volume BNSF rail shippers in the nation, a food grade corn processing facility, multiple country grain elevators, and multiple high volume frac sand transload and storage facilities. Paul received an Ag Business Management Degree from Southeast Community College in Beatrice, NE.
Raul Salinas is our Head of Operations and has 17 years of experience in the metals industry, including commercial and operational roles. Prior to joining Hamilton Metals, LLC, he was the Vice President of Operations for Hamilton Metals Inc, which he joined in 2003. During his tenure at Hamilton Metals Inc, Raul held positions of increasing responsibility, ranging from inventory purchasing, sales, and warehouse management roles. His prior experience also includes positions with Howco Metals.
Cody is responsible for all operations and management of BioUrja Power as its President. This includes oversight of all power trading, heat rates trading, and energy asset management functions. Prior to joining BioUrja Power, which he co-founded, Cody had 22 years of experience in energy trading and asset management with a focus in the gas and power industry. Cody’s record of success at companies like Dynegy Marketing & Trade and EDF Trading North America has been built upon relationships and contracts with all of the significant market players, including private equity, hedge funds, merchants, utilities, municipals, cooperatives, banks and industrial end-users. Cody is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a BS in Economics and an MBA in International Business.
John is responsible for setting the strategy and overseeing the day-to-day heat rate trading activities for BioUrja Power. He brings 20 years of trading experience in achieving risk-adjusted returns by utilizing fundamental and technical methodologies employed in discretionary and systematic strategies through his work at Koch Supply & Trading, Dynegy UK Limited and the Dayton Power and Light Company. John holds a B.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Ohio State University.
BioUrja do Brasil
Fernando heads our commercial operations in Brazil, covering all commodity trading and supply, as well as project development initiatives. Prior to joining BioUrja, he was Head of Ethanol Trading and Head of Sugar Trading at Copersucar in Brazil. Fernando has over 16 years of experience in trading and supplying commodities in Brazil, including working for Deutsche Bank, Coimex Trading and Usina Coruripe.
Casey manages the commercial operations for LogiBio, in addition to providing logistics and business development support to other BioUrja Group companies. He has worked in the logistics sector for over 15 years, including having spent 9 years at CSX Transportation. He has deep experience in the movement of physical energy products by truck and train, as well as in the marketing of energy commodities. Casey has an MBA and a B.S. from the University of Florida.
Marc oversees the strategy and all commercial operations of Penta Helios. He has 25 years of energy experience, including substantial expertise in the renewable energy sector. His energy trading experience is deep, having honed a diversified financial/physical trading skill set with an emphasis on minimizing risk and maximizing reward through a systematic and discretionary trading discipline at companies like Koch Supply & Trading and Deutsche Bank AG. He holds a B.S. in Agricultural Business Management with a Minor in Economics from the University of Delaware.
